The power of beneficent intention for Conflict Resolution: Embodying the power of compassion in your life

La puissance de la compassion pour la résolution des conflits: Ancrer la puissance de la compassion dans notre vie

Here is what the workshop will offer you :

  • The practical and direct understanding of the power of 'compassion', 'love', 'joy for life' and/or beneficent intention as a practical inner state for conflict resolution, dealing with stress, be a leader and simply lead your life.
  • A paradigm shift in how you see conflict resolution. From a struggle to an opportunity to improve the lives of all involved.
  • The embodied understanding to skillfully resolve physical or non-physical conflict without violence or victimhood.
  • Offer yourself the gift of discovering how your body can embody compassion and higher human values and how this inner state transforms conflicts.

Objectives of the workshop

The workshop objectives are :

  • Discovering our natural body response to stress and conflict : attack back, shield or withdrawal.
  • Experiencing practically how those responses don't usually bring a resolution but create more resistance or conflict.
  • Learn how to sense when our survival mechanism kicks in and how it prevents us from adopting a peaceful resolution to conflicts or deal with challenges that are coming when we are under stress.
  • Discover the power of connection and beneficent intention in conflict resolution.
  • Learn how to train your body so that you can get access to more of your ressources during conflict and by-pass your emotional responses.
  • Learn how to maintain connection during stressful situations.
  • Learn how to embody beneficent intention or compassion during conflicts and how that truly works.
  • Experience with the ability to connect in an authentic way with people even when things aren't working well.
  • Discover 'Focusing' a BodyMind approach to tap into your body wisdom and generate personal insights and breakthroughs from this practice for your business and personal life.
  • Get the gift of a new authentic way of conflict resolution for yourself.

Teaching approach

This workshop is going to be experiential and the learning happens through the body.

Simple movements (handshakes, light grabs or holds, walks forward) done in pairs like lets you discover how your body is behaving during stress or conflict and what prevents you from keeping compassion then.

Working at slow speed with safe levels of authentic moving forward energy, participants learn to quickly recognize their automatic defense responses. Then, using beneficent or benevolent intention, they will leaern how to transcend those automatic responses  to create flow or an harmonious resolution to the conflicting situation.

Role plays will also be used so participants can translate the physical situation into a business situation (responding in an benevolent or kind loving way when we are challenged, attacked verbally or in a conflict, learning to lead without using force). Repetition and precise teaching will ensure that the new behaviors can become embodied.

Time and space will be allocated to sense and reflect, to invite insights and have generative dialogues.

Praises for the workshop

"Spending those days with Corky allowed me to experience the simple joy of life again, which is the purest form of the love that is life for me, and which he embodies so fully and simply. I am deeply grateful for being immersed in this joy through meeting him and his teaching. We followed a kind of exponential curve each day of the workshop, starting with the very basics, building up on them and then suddenly rising very sharply to the beautiful but hard to attain ideal of responding to conflict with pure joy, benevolent intention or love." (Ana, Brussels)"

"Thanks for having made this workshop possible. What happenend was extremely valuable to me. I am very glad to have met all the participants." (Fabienne, Leuven)

"An interested curiosity brought me to the workshop. As a focusing trainer it seemed for me to enter into a new world. It took me time to understand how this new kind of connection could take place, setting my focusing conditions apart. And then came the notion of 'benevolent intention'. It became clear for me that I could feel this 'intentional starting place' in my heart. Corky is a wonderful trainer, totally engaged with his work. I felt his strong enthusiasm about bringing peace and love through his Aikido teaching. The workshop brought a new kind of awareness to me, beside of my bodily focusing life. I am still letting it sink into my body. Thank you for this beautiful experience. (Lara, Borgloon)"

"Olivier Gourmet is a gifted group process facilitator.  He helped me to take in the workshop in a fuller BodyMind way as he safely and gently invites participants to process what is there for them in a whole body way.  Something surprising came for me despite my initial struggle to connect with the Aikido practise.  I discovered that the energy of aggression inside me is an agent for connection to others, not at all what I was expecting to discover!" (Karen, Canada)
